PORTRAITS
AS I BRANCH OUT INTO MORE PORTRAITURE, I WIILL BE DOING PEOPLE OTHER THAN FAMILY; PERHAPS EVEN THOSE I DON'T EVEN KNOW! I AM THEREFORE OPENING UP ANOTHER PROJECT FOLDER THAT WILL ENCOMPASS THIS TYPE OF WORK! LET THE FUN BEGIN!!
KAHO, MY FRIEND! In the Fall of 2012, we were blessed with a wonderful foreign exchange student, Kaho, from Japan. She was only in our home for two weeks but blessed us for a lifetime! Her smile was simply contagious! PAINTING MAILED TO JAPAN! GIFT/NFS
THE FIRST PORTRAIT: Myself! A little too big for the canvas space...but that's how you learn! Otherwise, it did look like me! NFS
My darling Ric. Quite a dashing man...A little younger in this painting (My first one of him)...quite charming! NFS
This is my everyday Man! A little older now than my first painting of him, but oh my!... still quite a HUNK! Done in Oil and pen. Just left it at that....no need to get anymore fussy with it! GIFT/NFS
Grandson Cody. Makes you wonder what it might have been thinking about doesn't it? ....Well, he was playing on one of those dumb little game boy things! Pretty mindless! LOL! GIFT/NFS
Beautiful Taylor Dawn. She did not like her graduation Senior photo, so I did a portrait of her in oil. She is really quite beautiful and striking, don't you agree? GIFT/NFS
Seems eons ago...what a good time they were having! Picking' apples and goofing' off! Love those two wonderful sibling of mine! Lynn now has this painting. GIFT/NFS
My handsome Daddy, hard-working' man just eating a peach! Just picked it!. He was probably about 22 in this photo (black and white)! I have this painting. GIFT/NFS
John & Evalyn Watson on their wedding day. The original photo was taken in a drugstore photo booth. It's the only wedding photo they had. They went into the drug store because Daddy had a cough, so they bought some cough syrup. Mom used the bottle for a rolling pin for years and years. It was a long slender glass bottle about 10" tall. One of these days, you will see it in one of my other paintings. I still have it as Mom gave it to me. NFS
Devyn Marie at age 4: Medium graphite on Strathmore 400 series Bristol smooth surface paper. Completed October 2017; by, Donna Davies I have enjoyed drawing with pencil mediums this past fall (2017)) and hopefully with every portrait I complete I will increase my skill. With twelve grandchildren, I have LOTS of wonderful resource materials!
Sienna eating an Apple, age 2: Medium graphite, and colored pencil on Strathmore 400 series Bristol smooth surface paper. (Completed November 2017); by, Donna Davies. Colored pencil is fast becoming a popular medium, so I think it is fun to include a little touch of color in with the graphite drawings!
Levi, little Fireman - age 2: Medium graphite, and colored pencil on Strathmore 400 series Bristol smooth surface paper. (Completed December 2017); by, Donna Davies. Levi LOVES this little fireman hat. (Actually, there is a complete outfit - coat & boots) to go with it!) It originally was his big brother Kai's, but he has now claimed it as his own! He is SO funny as he usually has the hat on backwards! Grandpa lovingly calls hid little guy "Happy Jack!"
Lauryn, little sassy missy! Age 3. Just about the cutest thing EVER! Medium graphite, and colored pencil on Strathmore 400 series Bristol smooth surface paper. (Completed June 2018) by, Donna Davies. Cutest story! I had started this portrait early this year (2018) done from a photo that Ric and I took of her years ago. Her Daddy, Scott, came to visit us in February and saw the nearly completed portrait. I asked him if he thought "mommie" would like it and he said "Oh yeah!" We visited their home in Spring. I already had it done except for a few finishing touches, but knew they would be at our home in June and wanted it to be a surprise then, so cautioned him to keep it a secret. I asked her while we were in Texas to show me photos of older son so I could do a portrait of HIM (and I will!), and guess which photo she showed me? THIS one of Lauryn!!! Said she thought it was the cutest photo ever! HA. She will soon know we think so too! I have THIS finished piece hanging on my wall now just waiting for them to come and claim it!
Jason, son of my friend Betty Julkes in Payson, AZ. He was six months old in this portrait. Medium, grafite.
Preston Dane Dial at approximate 8 years old. I call this graphite drawing, "Preston, the Modern DayTom Sawyer" I drew this as a remembrance of my nephew April 30, 1966 - February 13, 2018.
