PATHWAYS
SHOW ME YOUR WAYS: "Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long! " (Psalms 25:4-5) This painting is from a photo I took while at women’s retreat at Forest Home in the San Bernardino Mountains near Forest Falls. The old house at the top of the beautiful stone stairway has many stories to tell I am certain. The property was donated to Forest Home Conference Center. I felt very inspired by this setting and felt led to paint it. SOLD
PEACEFUL PATHS ~ "Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace." (Proverbs 3:17) Beautiful pathway at Pismo Beach, California. I took photos while on walks there and composed this painting from them. What a wonderful and peaceful place this is! PAINTING UNAVAILABLE, SOLD.
A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS ~ When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8:12) Never again will we need to worry about being in the dark or being afraid. Christ is here to guide us and keep our paths straight! Check out the painting entitled "Beacon on a Hill." These make great companion pieces!! This painting donated to Mountain Bible Church to the Youth Camp fund auction.
BEACON ON A HILL ~ "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven." (Matthew 5: 14-16) ~ It was from this scripture that I got the name for my web site, "Let your Light shine - Artistry." When I was a little girl, we sang a wonderful children's song with words that said, "Put your light light under a bushel, 'NO'"... with hand motions that went along. It stuck with me in a very mighty way! This painting makes a nice companion piece with "A light in the Darkness," which is another lighthouse painting of mine that is set in a nighttime venue. You will find it on this site as well. This painting donated to Mountain Bible Church to the Youth Camp fund auction.
FOREST PATHWAY ~ "Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of Living Water will flow from within them." (John 7:38) The forests and streams are alive with the Glory of the living God as are all of his believers! #38 Size 18 X 24, Framed. Price $300.00. Donation to the Youth Fund for Mountain Bible Church, Payson, AZ.
PATHWAY TO MANSIONS ~ "In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (John 14: 2-3) ~ This painting was done via a composite of several photos i took along a beautiful walkway on the coastline at Pismo Beach, CA. The mansions on the hill were seen through the "hole in the hill" at Pirate's Cove which juts out into the bay. In one direction, you can view the ocean; from the other direction you can see these beautiful homes....perhaps I was longing for my eternal "home" when I decided to paint the 'mansion view' instead of the ocean! SOLD
NEW ENGLAND FISHING HARBOR (PEGGY'S COVE) ~ "Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and He guided them to their desired haven. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind. (Psalms 107: 28-31). This painting was done in our workshop from a photo taken by one of our workmates. Beautiful place! SOLD
MINER'S SHACK IN CALIENTE ~ "Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness." (Proverbs 23;4) "Give me neither property nor riches, but give mer only my daily bread." Proverbs 30:8. ~ This old miner's shack (now many years abandoned and quite uninhabitable) can be seen in the Tehachapi Mountains down in the Caliente Canyon on the way to Lorraine, a very tiny community 17 miles down into the canyon near some property owned by my husband's family. SOLD SOLD
SOLITUDE -So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place. Mark 6:32 This painting reminds me of a peaceful solitary place where one could just “BE”. I’d love to find it…Maybe I will. Maybe you will too! #50 Size 28 X 24 framed, Gifted to my son RSD-NFS. Limited Edition Prints available in either canvas or paper.
WISHING ON A MOON - This was an early original painted by me in 2011. Can’t you just picture yourself sitting on the moon wishing? What would you be wishing for? Enchanting idea isn’t it? SOLD
A WARM COUNTRY ROAD - "The path of the righteous is level; O upright One, you make the way of the righteous smooth. Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts." (Isaiah 26: 7-9). This place is real, a wonderful road in West Virginia that my cousin visited. I can just picture Jesus meeting us here, can't you? SOLD
A LIGHT TO MY PATH: I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me. How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (Psalm 119: 101-105) This painting was inspired from a photo taken by husband and me on a walk at Eagle River, Wisconsin. Surely this is a place God must especially love! #59 Size 20 X 24 Framed. NFS.
GLOWING FOREST PATHWAY ~ This is one of my favorite pieces, although not one of my most recent. There is something about 'grand old trees' in the forest and the beauty of God's light shining through that takes my breath away! (Psalms 96: 10-13) "Say among the nations, "The Lord reigns; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved; He will judge the peoples with equity." Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; Let the sea roar, and all it contains; Let the field exult, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the Lord, for He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in His faithfulness. SOLD to my brother Lynn Watson who said this reminded him of some of our family camping trips!
MY LIFE - GOD CARES!: When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me? (Psalms 56:14) Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6 This painting is of a dear beautiful friend who is such a blessing to me. She was just a little innocent girl when this picture was taken. GIFT
PARTWAY PAST (ENHANCED): Does anybody recognize the OLD Lugonia Avenue? …at least with Orange groves down the right side of the road as they used to be? The left side now has residential trees. Still, there is a beautiful glorious sky and wonderful clouds to be seen. They still have the BEST oranges around! #17 Size 15 X 30 Framed. Price $250 Plus S/H. GIFT
BEAUTIFUL INDIAN MAIDEN: This painting was inspired from a photo my Mother had in her possessions which I inherited after she passed away. She always loved Indian artifacts and collected many. I thought this young maiden was especially beautiful. She seems busy working beads into lovely strings. As Proverbs 31:17 states, “She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.” Surely this is a young girl that God must especially have loved! Proverbs 31:30 also states, “Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” I sense that she may be that kind of woman. This is a gift for my granddaughter Sienna; I hope it will be inspirational to her! #77/8 Size 11 X 14 Framed Price NFS. Gift for my granddaughter.
WALK IN MY SHOES: The Indian moccasins pictured above were given to my mother when she was a child by her brother who was nearly 20 years older than she. He had gone to Arizona to work alongside of his Dad and got them there. That is all I know of their history and origin. I have conjured up many stories in my head about them along the years however. My mother and I have always been interested in American Indian Artifacts and history. The Bible has some very interesting things to say about WALKING. In Genesis, One of the things God did was WALK in the Garden with the first Man and Woman. He Loved being WITH them. There are several places where this is reinforced throughout the book. To WALK WELL is to WALK WITH GOD, not alone. I can’t think of any other place I’d rather be than to be Walking WITH GOD…If I get tired, he can always carry me! #78 Pastel chalk/Size: 22 X 25-1/2 custom Barnwood frame under glass, Price $400. Donation to the Mountain Bible Church Youth Group.
Lurking Danger: (Psalms 107:28-30) Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. Whether you see an ocean storm or a snow storm (I’ve been told both), there is pretty much no doubt that this is a ‘stormy situation!’ Although the cloud colors are quite beautiful, still danger is lurking. Life is often like that and why we always need our great GOD who is always near when we call upon him! Suggested beginning bid: $50.00 Size: Framed, matted, watercolor under glass, 12 X 14”. If interested in bidding, please contact my email on card: davies@halfmooninn.net NFS - Donated to Taste of the RIM (Payson Library Fund Raiser)
Wilderness Tree: 1 Kings 19: 4-7...and so Elijah went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers. 5 And as he lay and slept under the tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, “Arise and eat.” 6 And he looked, and behold, there was a cake baked on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. 7 And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, “Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.” The tree in that wilderness was a ’juniper tree’ according to the King James Version of the Bible. I sometimes wonder if it had been near Arizona, if it would not have been a ‘mesquite tree’ here! God’s angel took such good care of Elijah when he was downtrodden and weary. I think he would do the same thing now under similar circumstances. Trust and faith! Suggested beginning bid: $75.00 Size: 15 X 10 matted and framed under glass. Pen and black India Ink. If interested in bidding, please contact my email on card: davies@halfmooninn.net. SOLD D. Kingery
Caught!: You may have heard the saying, “Oh, the tangled webs we weave, when with others we try to deceive!” These spider webs can be deceptively beautiful. They can glisten in the early dewy morning light as is evident by the successful catches made by these little creatures! There is a certain fascination they hold, isn’t there? We certainly need to be on our guard against such situations in our human lives and keep our eyes on Jesus who will never deceive us but will always keep us headed in the right direction for blessing and NOT deception. Thank you lovely little spider web for the “reminder.” Genesis 3: 3 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Titus 3:3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated hating one another. # 86 Size: 24-1/4 X 16-1/2, double-matted and framed under glass, Watercolor, with etching. If interested, please contact my email on card: davies@halfmooninn.net. Price $175 Plus S/H.
Minnehaha - Pensive: March 20, 2016 When I decided to paint this legendary Indian girl, I guess it was because my Mom had a special love for Indians, young Indian girls to be specific. She was always attracted to photos and cards that had pictures of them. The legendary Minnehaha and her love for Hiawatha is well known. Perhaps she was thinking of him while sitting pensively on this rock in these beautiful surroundings! While many paintings have been done of her, and of this particular rock, this is my version in this waterfall setting. I hope you enjoy it! I have the feeling that “this” Minnehaha represented a “…sincere love [‘especially of Hiawatha’] and loved fervently with a pure heart. 1 Peter 1:22 ((NKJV). Suggested beginning bid: Size: 12 X 16 on Canvas Board, unframed, oil. Price $100.00 Plus S/H. NFS - Unavailable.
BLOOM AMONG THE THORNS: “Like a bloom among thorns is my darling among the young women.” (Song of Solomon 2:2) When I was presented with the photo of the cactus above with the beautiful bloom on it by one of my dear friends, and she said to me, “maybe you’d like to paint this,” little did I know how true that would be! I used some fairly newly acquired watercolor pencils, but decided to use a black background (actually it is black textured cardstock paper). I was very proud of how this watercolor technique turned out! I had to search to find a scripture that was fitting for it! I thought this little cactus very charming! I hope you will enjoy it too! Gift - NFS.
“Peace, Be Still” Artist: Donna S. Davies Date: September2016 He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. (Mark 4:39) This beautiful imagery of crashing waves with awesome clouds in the background once again shows us the beauty that God creates for us day after day as he offers us his mercy, grace and peace. Size: 18 X 24 X 1-1/2 unframed, medium oil. davies@halfmooninn.net. Currently unavailable/Raffled for Open Studio Tour.
His Light Shining in the Nations Artist, Donna S. Davies October 2016 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 The wonderful children’s song, ‘Jesus Loves me this I know..Jesus loves all the children of the WORLD….’ kept popping into my head as I painted this beautiful ancient Hopi Pueblo on First Mesa in Walpi, Arizona. It whipers and then “SHOUTS” an amazing history of a resilient people whom our great God has preserved because he DOES love ALL the people of the world. Our great American Indian peoples are no exception as they offer a history of such great preservation with an exciting heritage of courage and strength. I hope you will embrace this painting as much as I do as a symbol of the struggle which they, as a people, have faced and endured which has strengthened them to continue to hope for their successful future. Suggested beginning bid: $ 500.00, Medium: Oil. Size: 24” X 18”. NFS
FORUM OF TRANQUILITY, by Artist Donna Davies, - 2016 One wonders what it might be like to rest near the tranquility of a serene reflective pool such as this and to contemplate perhaps on some of the great philosophies or great masters of past eras! Hmmmmm. A nice relaxing spa! Perhaps some beautiful clouds! I feel rested already just thinking about it! Medium: Original watercolor pencil and charcoal. (Size 13 X 16 ½, double-matted & framed under glass size 16 ½ X 25). NFS.
